Cummins and Hyundai work on Electric Mini-Excavator

Cummins and Hyundai jointly developed an electric powered mini excavator in October 2018, designed to operate for a full eight-hour shift and recharge in under three hours. According to Cummins, the machine eliminates all gaseous emissions and reduces noise.

As urban cities continue “going green” at a rapid pace, zero-emissions machines that either match or exceed reliability and performance of diesel machines are being heavily sought after. The company says this prototype machine will be used for testing to optimize the performance, prove the structural integrity, and enhance marketability for electric minis. The machine is powered by Cummins BM4.4E flexible battery modules. Both companies agreed to collaborate on the design and development of electric powered mini excavators for this market.
